Vince Natale on Whitecliff Vineyard: On visiting Whitecliff, I was charmed by it’s pastoral setting – gently rolling hills, and breezy open spaces. The grounds have a relaxing and inviting aura about them, and as spacious as it is, one can still get a cozy and homey feel lounging on the lawn or sipping the fruits of the winery at a picnic table with friends; The Shawangunk Ridge rising in the distance adds a serene spectacle to the scenery.

The visit left me with inspiration and ideas enough for a series of paintings, from which I’ll have to distill, or blend into just two pieces for this project.

Whitecliff Vineyard produces fine, complex wines that are serious fun, and a vivid reflection of the region. Whitecliff has a gorgeous site, with spectacular cliff views of the Shawangunk Ridge near New Paltz.

Husband and wife team Michael Migliore and Yancey Stanforth-Migliore started Whitecliff from scratch. From planting the vines to construction of the tasting room, they have done much of the work with their own hands. The Migliores take particular pride in being part of a vanguard of innovators who have worked to add European wine grapes, high-quality new hybrids, and complex, European-style wines to the Valley.

The Migliore’s have dedicated more than 30 years to finding and planting grape varieties that succeed on their Hudson Valley site and produce wines they are proud of. In addition to receiving a wide range of medals over time, they are recognized as having “consistent vision” in the wines, as well as for the quality of the tasting room experience – happy to guide visitors through their wines, and to share their knowledge of winemaking and grape growing.

For over 30 years, Whitecliff Vineyard has maintained its focus as a family business that keeps land in farming, strengthens the region’s agricultural roots, and produces a unique natural product that makes people happy.
